A message of the Dean

20 years of leadership

  • February 11, 1988
    USSR Government authorized (Resolution ¹ 198) the Academy of National Economy under the USSR Government to start management development in foreign business.

  • September 22, 1988
    USSR Government established (Resolution ¹ 1106) the Graduate School of International Business (GSIB) within the Academy of National Economy.

  • October 3, 1988
    First GSIB students were enrolled to study international business

  • September 1, 1990
    Professor, DSc (Economics) Leonid Evenko was appointed GSIB Rector.

  • 1991
    GSIB cosponsored the establishment of the Russian Association of Business Education (RABE).

  • 1991
    GSIB announced enrolment in short-term management development programs in accounting, audit, finance and taxation.

  • 1992
    GSIB announced enrolment in Russia’s first full-time MBA program designed on the basis of foreign experience and Russian specifics.

  • 1992
    GSIB became N 2 in the first National Business School Ranking.

  • September 1993
    GSIB announced enrolment in the Director-Businessman Program of executive development in business and management.

  • 1994
    GSIB announced enrolment in the International Agribusiness Program of executive development of top managers and owners of Russian agribusiness companies.

  • 1995
    GSIB announced enrolment in the “MBA: Management – International Business” Part-time (evening) program.

  • 1996
    Leonid Evenko was elected (and remains) President of the Russian Association of Business Education.

  • 1996
    “MBA: Management – International Business” Full-time program was entered in the international catalog “The Directory of MBA” (London, Great Britain).

  • 1996
    GSIB announced enrolment in the Modular program “MBA: Management – International Business”.

  • 1999
    Leonid Evenko, RABE President and GSIB Rector, initiated the adoption of the State Standard Minimum Requirements for professionals to be awarded the Master of Business Administration additional degree.

  • 1999
    GSIB became one of the first Russian business schools empowered to award state MBA diplomas.

  • 2000
    GSIB announced enrolment in Russia’s first MBA program for applicants with a prior higher professional education in economics and/or management.

  • 2003
    The Council on the Master of Business Administration Programs that includes the Deans of leading Russian business schools was established within the RF Ministry of Education and Science and chaired by Leonid Evenko.

  • February 2004
    For the first time GSIB became number 1 in the “Moscow Business School Ranking” compiled by RosBusinessConsulting.

  • 2005
    GSIB announced enrolment in the executive development program “Modern Corporate Finance Technologies”.

  • January 2006
    GSIB headed the “Top 25 Russian Business Schools” listed by the Russian MBA League”.

  • May 2006
    GSIB was awarded the Finance Press Club of Russia Golden Diploma “For Impeccable Business Reputation and Excellent Business Education Services”.

  • October 2006
    GSIB topped the “20 Most Strategic Business Schools in Russia” ranking list compiled by the “Economic Strategies” magazine.

  • March 2007
    The international association AMBA (Great Britain) accredited GSIB MBA programs.

  • March 2008
    The new revised State Standards for MBA Programs included GSIB MBA learning outcomes as a recommended pattern.

  • 2008
    GSIB celebrates the 20th anniversary of its foundation within the Academy of National Economy, which is considered by the educational community as the historical benchmark of business education in Russia.
